Inflation touches 2 year low in Jan

The headline Inflation for the month of January has touched a two year low of 6.55% on the back of cheap food items. The figure was slowed as compared to the expectation of 6.6% and lower than the previous month inflation number of 7.47%. During the same period of the last year, the index was at 9.47%.

The present number is the lowest of December 2009, when the inflation was stood at 7.15%. Food Inflation was at (-0.52%) in January against 0.74% in December.

Vegetables prices declined 43.13%, wheat by 3.48%, potato and onion prices plunged 23.15% and 75.57% on an annual basis.

Prices of manufactured items were increased by 6.49% on a yearly basis against 7.41%, which has increased manufacturing inflation index to 6%.

The index of primary articles was at 2.25% in January as compared to 3.07% in December, while non-Food primary articles were moderated to 0.55% in January against 1.48% in the preceding month.

Fuel group inflation was at 14.21% versus 14.91% in the previous month
