Food Inflation stays at negative terminal

Food Inflation for the week ended January 7, 2012 stood at (-0.42%) on the back of ease in onion and overall vegetable prices. The number stood at (-2.90%) during the same period of the last year.

The index of primary articles stood at 2.47% in the week ended January 7 and the fuel group inflation was at 14.45% on an annual basis.

The prices of onion were decreased by 75.42%, potato prices were declined by 23.84% on an annual basis. The overall vegetable prices were nosedived by 45.81%.

The prices of pulses were surged 14.27%, milk became expensive by 11.48%, egg, meat and fish prices were increased by 19.64% over a year. Fruits prices became expensive by 10.03% and cereal prices were soared 2.26%.

Commenting on the numbers of Food Inflation, Pranab Mukherjee, the Finance Minister of India has expressed confidence in moderation in Food Inflation in the upcoming months.
